Mr. Vandersluis is a fun guy with keen intellect, sensitivity, and insight. He is diligent and quite competent in his role as a part time lay biblical counsellor. He has taken Ron's "Deep Change" course several times (for continued refining excellence, and in training to teach it.) He earned his Wellspring of Life "Guard Your Heart" certificate August 1999, and as of August 2002 has level 1 NANC certification. Spring 2002 he took Ron's 20 hour advanced seminar on Job, a course of particular challenge and joy to all involved. He has been a joy for Ron to coach and plans to keep taking courses offered here and periodically in the U.S. as he continues to counsel. He was taking a break (2003) from counselling but will return, if he hasn't already.

Born in Chatham Ontario, November 26th, 1958, Ken has been a custom home builder since he was 17 years old and enjoys it very much. He loves the outdoor "workouts' and is deeply grateful to God for blessing his efforts to the extent that he has enough financial freedom to pursue two other favourite interests; reading and writing. Happily married to Ellen since 1981 and presently enjoying a quiver of 4 children, his family has challenged and enhanced the content and time to write. Devin was born in 1987, Taylor in 1991, Mitchell 1995, and dear long-awaited Kara arrived 1997. In such a busy household Ken has managed to write and has had some of his short stories, poems, and articles appear in various church related publications. Says Ken "I've always had this ‘writing thing' in the back of my mind ..." then comments that after God's taught him more about life, maybe a novel will emerge when he's 85! In the meantime, with all this reading, thinking, discovery and writing came more questions. He explained it this way.
"WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CHRISTIAN IN THE 20th, NOW 21st CENTURY?" is a question that has motivated much of Ken's thinking. Believing The Bible to be relevant to present day living he was questioning just what that relevance looked like in actual everyday life, when he "stumbled" into Ron Harris. Ken expresses amazement at encountering Ron and all that followed afterward in classes, conversations, and counsel of a budding counsellor. Ken states that the question of application of the Bible to contemporary lives "is the question you (Ron), and every Biblical Counsellor grapples with every session. The gospel needs to have relevance in peoples' lives, and when it does - look out!" With a strong but humble conviction Ken declares of Biblical relevance that "This is what God is calling me to do, not just in counselling and the deepening of my understanding of counselling, but in everything I do."
